If I'm going to a special event or vacation, I tend to take my digital camera too. Regardless of what you use to take the pictures, the fact is you probably have a lot and don't want to lose them. So here are some strategies to keep your pictures safe and in the process possibly organize them.
There are a few rules that we need to keep in mind when thinking about how to keep our pictures safe.
- Rule 1 - Keep your pictures in more than one place. No storage location is 100% safe--Your house might burn down (Hope not).
- Rule 2 - Make sure one of those place you keep your pictures is not in the same house/business as the first place. In other words have a copy of your pictures outside your house.
- Rule 3 - It is only a matter of time until your photos are lost at one of the storage locations. This is why you need to store your photos in more than one location.
If something happens to one of the locations I can get the pictures from the other. This happens all the time. I had a client who's house got broken into and they took there computer, there storage CDs and Everything. He was very mad and frustrated knowing that his wedding and children pictures were stolen along with his backups. Lucky for him I took most of the pictures and he came in a few months before the robbery to have his photos backup to our secure Servers. He was able to download all the pictures (about 5,000 pictures) and had them back on to his new computer later that event.
Its never a bad idea to have a DVD or 2 with all those images stored at the office, your home and at our Silvermyst Photo Server. This will guarantee to have your photos and memories in a safe place and have a peace of mind.
